“Dr Abirami expressed - Confidence isn’t about knowing; it’s about staying steady when it matters most.”

When Confidence Feels Lost

“For years, Dr. Abirami Naresh carried a fear that few could notice. She knew she was competent and trusted with critical decisions at The Eye Foundation India, but she often realized that in high-pressure moments, her confidence wavered and her mind raced.”

She had the knowledge, the skills, and the experience. Yet in important moments, she felt her throat tighten, her thoughts rush, and her voice lose steadiness. And the worst part was that she was repeating herself, not because the point lacked value, but because she lost control mid-sentence.

One ordinary meeting stayed with her more than any dramatic failure could. A clinical review, senior leaders present, a decision to explain clearly. She knew the case. She knew her reasoning. Then came the question:

“Why did you choose this approach?”

Though she knew the answer, her body forgot it. She stumbled, paused, and tried again. A small slip of the tongue disrupted her rhythm. Her voice wavered. She couldn’t recover in real time. The meeting ended quietly, but she walked out feeling she had lost something essential – not the case, but her footing inside herself.

Over time, this became a pattern. Dr. Abi didn’t just fear speaking; she feared the version of herself that appeared when she spoke.

Finding Communication Intelligence

When Dr. Abi first heard about Communication Intelligence, she hesitated. The sessions required real commitment, and she carried a deeper fear:

“Will I be consistent?”

Past attempts had not worked. Effort alone had never been enough. Something had to shift inside.

Program Realizations

Under Gurleen Ma’am’s mentorship, Dr Abi started seeing the patterns behind her reactions. she realized -” I was walking into conversations already negotiating with fear, bracing for judgment, trying to be perfect. That is not communication,  that is survival”.

Through the program, she learned to notice triggers before they became reactions. She highlighted- “I learned to slow down where I used to rush. I learned to respond intentionally instead of reacting emotionally. I stopped carrying old anger and unfinished conversations in my body.”

Then, something unexpected happened. My confidence returned, not louder, not performative – calmer, steadier, anchored. The next time I was questioned in a discussion, I paused. I listened. I answered cleanly. No proving. No over-explaining. No inner panic trying to earn permission to speak.

“For the first time in years, I felt in control of myself while speaking,” I remember thinking.

Shifting Perspective

Her perspective shifted and she shared- “Over the weeks, communication changed for me. It was no longer a tool to get through; it became a way to stay grounded while staying strong. I listened deeply  not to reply, but to understand. I started seeing value in difficult moments, not by tolerating them, but by seeing them clearly.

My voice steadied because my inner world steadied first. People responded differently  not because I tried to dominate, but because I held my ground. The calm. The clarity. Self-respect. That is what builds trust.

The Truth She Lives By

Confidence isn’t a performance. It’s a state. Calm. Grounded. Deeply human.

And for Dr. Abi, Communication Intelligence became the bridge to reclaim her voice, trust her instincts, and finally step into the leader she had always been capable of being.
